Base delle forze armate statunitensi

Pareri molto discordanti sono presenti anche qui. I più vorrebbero smantellare la base, ma sappiamo benissimo che sono accordi tra Stati e vanno rispettati. Io ci sono entrato solo in occasione della loro festa e a parte quello che si vede dai viali esterni, da comune cittadino, non è possibile vedere altro. Ha perso molto come deposito militare e personale. La cosa sicuramente positiva è che mantengono pulita e controllata l’area loro assegnata. Cosa c’è dentro... si dicono tante cose.

Personalmente non mi aggrada per niente e mi preoccupa che ci sia una base militare straniera così imponente così vicino a casa mia.

Non sempre amata dai locali. Da anni si discute sulla opportunità di mantenerla o smantellarla.

Camp Darby as it was experienced in the 1960s being a kid was fantastic. My dad was the Leghorn port commander and we lived in Tirrenia just 20 min away within walking distance to the ocean. The base was great as we would take the bus to school on base K-12, and went to the movies there,shopping. Even then, it was a like a small piece of America. The pine trees are simply like redwoods-huge! The camp is spacious and pretty amazing for an Army base. We use to teach the Italian kids to play bazeball as they would say.

The Darby Military Community, previously known as Camp Darby, is a United States military complex in Italy in the Tuscan region situated between the cities of Pisa and Livorno. It is under Italian military control and can be managed anytime by Italian authorities. The Northern part of the base has been transferred to the Italian Army, which transferred its Special Forces Command to Darby on 10 June 2020.The base was formally dedicated on 15 November 1952 as Camp Darby, and is named in memory of Brigadier General William O. Darby, Assistant Division Commander of the 10th Mountain Division, who was killed by enemy artillery on 30 April 1945 on the shore of Lake Garda, Italy.
